Cartoon: Dentist appointment

We all have our fears and worries. A dentist appointment ranks up there with the fear of public speaking and dangerous animals. I’m sorry but this cartoon from the past probably won’t help ease your dental anxiety.

Cartoon of a dentist and a patient. The dentist says, "Your teeth look great. But it looks like we need to extract your tongue."

However, there are some good resources out there for those suffering this fear.

I have to say I’ve been very fortunate with my dental visits. But I know others that have had to face some challenges in the dental chair. Root canals and extractions can be painful and tough. But I’m thankful we don’t have to endure what others have in the past.

For instance, barbers used to double as dentists. I can’t imagine my barber taking handling teeth cleaning… or worse while I also got a trim. That brings a whole new urgency to the phrase, “Stay in your lane!”

My last trip to the dentist was okay, but strange thoughts happen when you are in the dentist’s chair. My tongue is fine, however.

This works for Illustration Friday back in 2009. The week’s word was, “impatience.” It’s hard to be patient when a dentist is inserting strange tools in your mouth!

Recently, more and more people are becoming afraid to dentists. Who wouldn't be? Dentistry and dental services like dental veneer are not painful if anesthetic procedure is applied.
