Pop-up Evangelism

Happy Pentecost or Whit Sunday! This cartoon seemed like just as good a one for this day as any. Besides, what better day for a little pop-up evangelism than Pentecost Sunday?

Pop-up Evangelism cartoon: a guy pops out of a tree and says, "Have you thought about where you will spend eternity?"

Pentecost Sunday in many churches commemorates the day the Holy Spirit descended on the Disciples after Jesus ascended to Heaven. You can read all about it in Acts, Chapter 2. Suddenly, this group of followers transformed from a timid group to one that was willing to do anything to share the good news or Gospel.

It was a pivotal time in history and the birth of the church. Before that time, who would have thought this tiny group of believers would transform the Western world? They were willing to risk their lives to love and to share this new good news.

Listeners and Zombies

I must admit I’ve never been as bold as the guy in this cartoon. I’ve had others who share my faith and from other faiths come up to me. And I admire them for their boldness. I’ve always found it easier for me to draw and write my thoughts as opposed to speak about them. No wonder I love blogging!

I wrote and illustrated a book that serves as an evangelism tool. In it, I used a zombie virus as a metaphor for the death and destruction that comes without the good news.

However, as my one post illustrates, one advantage of witnessing to zombies is that they are good listeners.

You may have a good idea from my blog posts about where I stand. Then again, maybe you think I’m cryptic.  If you’re curious, feel free to email or comment and I’ll be glad to share my story.

So as many churches celebrate this Whit Sunday, don’t be surprised if you witness some pop-up evangelism.

I drew this cartoon for the November 2022 CHOGNews.

Editor’s Note: I originally published this blog on October 6, 2015. I revamped and updated it for timeliness and comprehensiveness.

Interested in learning your story. Also, may I post your cartoons on my facebook with my own comments regarding the importance of October as pastor appreciation month. I will give full credit to your work as an illustrator.

Thank you for your comment. You have my permission to use my cartoons on your Facebook page with credit. I would also be glad to talk to you sometime about my story.

Blessings,
