Pardon Me/Love Me

Illustration of a man reluctantly holding a loving cat

Illustration of a man reluctantly holding a loving cat.

Sometimes love come when you least expect it… or want it. Cats are notorious for wanting affection on their own terms. I believe they wait until the least opportune time, then spring into action. Of course, they don’t care to love you when you come home. They wait until they are certain you are about to begin a new project.

One nice about having a cat, is they help promote procrastination. Everybody can use that, right?

Get your sleep, Kids!

Here’s something out of the sketchbook. Yes, you can make a sketch out of nothing. If you see me today, I may look far worse than this doodle. Consider it a fair warning.

Find something today that seems ordinary and put it in your sketchbook or journal. And one more thing: be sure to get your sleep so you won’t look like me!

Wilted Complaints

Cartoon of two women next to a wilted plant. One woman says, “It’s a valuable plant. When I complain, it wilts.”

Oh, it’s so easy to complain, isn’t it? Something doesn’t go the way I think it should, and the next thing I know, I complaining a blue streak. I get upon my throne and declare the way things should be. Naturally, the world would be a better place if everyone just listened to me!

But the world isn’t going to cooperate. Billions of people have billions of opinions. Many are legitimate concerns. When injustice and selfishness hurts other people, protests and complaints are legitimate.

But when things aren’t going to change, no matter how much I whine, there comes a point, when the complaining is as bad as the offense. Today, I’m going to look for one of those plants. Surely there must be one out there that will let me know when my speech is becoming less than helpful.

Discovering Pinterest

I’ve been too busy to get one of my cartoons onto the blog. So I decided I should at least type something. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but I may not have that much in my inventory this morning.

Recently, a friend has invited me to join Pinterest. Now, I know what you’re thinking. No, that’s not where all my time is going! However, it’s fascinating how a social media site that’s based on images is taking off so quickly.

Honestly, I’m squeamish about putting my own images on there because of the rights you give away under the terms of agreement. I will reserve my verdict for that part of the site. In the meantime. I’m checking it out to see how others are using it.

Do you use Pinterest? If you’re an artist or illustrator, how are you using it?

Perfect Personal Space

Illustration of a man with his coffee. His cat is sitting atop his head.

Let’s face it. Cats are not known for respecting personal space. Lately, our cat has been particularly neurotic when it comes to morning attention. It makes it hard to put on your thinking cap when the cat is atop your head. It makes me frantically look for a catnip mouse or a can of tuna as a distraction.

If your cat is keeping you from morning productivity, here are a few things you can do:

  • Try reverse psychology. I’ve noticed if you want to pet cats, they run away as if you’ve sprouted a second, evil head. If they think YOU want attention, they’ll sense they are no longer in control and run.
  • Stand up and walk. Cats are not keen on maintaining balance on moving objects.
  • Keep the coffee from the cat. The last thing you need is a neurotic AND a caffeinated cat.

Hang in there. This too shall pass!
