PiBoIdMo

That’s right. I’m taking the plunge. November is Picture Book Idea Month. You can participate too by going to  http://taralazar.wordpress.com.

Look for the ideas to show up on my blog. We’ll see if I do one each day or have a few bunched up on a day. You know, it’s the ebb and flow thing!

2011 Indiana Author Awards

The 2011 Indiana Author Fair was yesterday, October 29, 2011 at the Indianapolis Central Library.

The recipients of the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Indiana Authors Award  were on WFYI, Indianapolis public radio’s program, “No Limits” last Thursday. You can listen to a podcast of Margaret McMullan and on the program’s web site. Both authors have published in the young adult market. Helen also writes for elementary readers. It’s well worth a listen if you are interested in children’s literature and the state of the publishing industry.

You can also see the authors’ web sites at these addresses:

Uncertain Jack-o’-lantern

Page from my sketchbook. I drew this Jack-o’-lantern in 2001. At the time, our country was going through a lot of scary things and I was struggling through a lot. I was between jobs and my wife and I were just trying to figure out what would happen next.

All the stuff we were going through then seems so trivial then. I don’t know what you’re going through today, but know that everything changes. If you’re going through a rough spot, there is hope. The good old days are only good when we are way ahead of them. Hold on, child. Things are gonna get easier!

The Skeleton Dance

Mark Anderson reminded me on his blog that Disney made a great Halloween clip back in the early days. It’s the Skeleton Dance!

Happy weekend!

Superstitious Photoshop

Apple Insider is reporting new details into Photoshop CS6, codenamed “Superstition.”

Among the new features, some of the items that excite me is there may be more 3D features coming to Photoshop including a perspective crop tool and 3D material eyedropper.

AppleInsider is also reporting the interface will look a little darker, like what is used in Aperture. I’m not sure what to think about that yet. But I’m not too worried if the look changes. If everything stays the same, the old noggin turns to mush.

This is the kind of superstition I wouldn’t mind. They are predicting Photoshop CS6 will release next spring, 2012.
