It has to be a holiday fashion faux pas to wear a Santa cap at the South Pole. After all, it’s summer there and it’s daylight all the live long day. It’s practically above zero!

The other day, National Public Radio in the United States had a report on the tough economy and letters to Santa Claus. It broke my heart to hear how some families are struggling this year. I thought of the kids who were looking for hope for the new year.
It made me thing of the Christmas carol, “O Little Town of Bethlehem.” The last part of the first verse spoke to me.

I’m not sure I’d want to see elves going at each other because of deplorable working conditions, but it would make interesting TV nonetheless. It could be called “Santa’s Sweatshop” or “North Pole Goes South.” Oh the sordid details that would emerge!
