Yesterday’s sermon was courtesy of Kyle Hayes. My big takeaway was his discussion on Locus of Control. Naturally, if we believe things are out of our control we claim we are victims of circumstance.  Continue reading “Difficult People: The Blamer | Sermon Sketch Notes”

He Holds the Future | Sketch Notes

On Sunday, April 30, Pastor Nathanael Lyon (Twitter: @nolyon) preached on Because He Lives, He Holds the Future.  at Salem Church of God. Here are my sketch notes from his sermon.

My big takeaway was purpose must be connected with love. He did a great job combining the spiritual gifts chapter of 1 Corinthians 12 with the love chapter of 1 Corintians 13. The hinge of the two chapters is found in 1 Corintians 12:31
Now eagerly desire the greater gifts. And yet I will show you the most excellent way.
1 Corintians 12:31 (NIV)

Sketch Notes: Because He Lives, All Fear is Gone

Sermon sketch notes based on "Because He Lives, All Fear is Gone."
I took these sketch notes at Salem Church of God in Clayton, Ohio

This sketch note page is from yesterday’s sermon at my church. Pastor Steve Southards from Salem Church of God continued his sermon series based on the song, “Because He Lives” by Bill and Gloria Gaither.

I loved the tin pan illustration Pastor Southards shared at the end. His grandfather loved to garden. When Steve visited, he would see aluminum foil pie pans hung over the garden. His grandfather put them there to scare away the birds, deer and other animals that wanted the tasty fruits and vegetables. Steve observed if a bird was smart, he might look for the foil pans because that would signify something good was nearby.

Too often, what scares us could actually hide the blessing we desire the most. Great sermon, as always from Pastor Southards.

Do it Today | Sketch Notes

These notes are based on Proverbs 6:4-11. Don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today. It’s so easy to talk about, and so hard to do, isn’t it? The pastor really hit me with the remark, “Inspiration doesn’t change your life if you do nothing with it.” We must be intentional with our time. I have learned this as I have managed my time over the last year. When you are working for yourself, being a self-starter is critical!

These sermon notes are based on Salem Church of God‘s New Years Day 2017 sermon from Nathanael Lyon. Here is the video link.
