Leap Day Choices

Cartoon of a boy with a big mouth about to consume a birthday cake. The caption reads, "This choice may come back to haunt him."

Cartoon of a boy with a big mouth about to consume a birthday cake. The caption reads, “This choice may come back to haunt him.”

O why must birthday cake be designed so that it is not wise to eat the whole thing? I guess it’s because birthdays are meant to be shared with other people. You learn real quick in life to share some things or the choices will come back to haunt you.

it must be hard to have a birthday on February 29. But it could be fun too. Wouldn’t it be nice to live forty-eight years, yet only be twelve years old? The only hard part would be waiting for birthday cake every four years.

Crime Scene-Boy takes pencil

Crime Scene-Boy takes pencil, originally uploaded by speartoons.

This is an illustration I did last year for a children’s curiculum. It was talking about whether stealing was ever okay and if there were different levels of stealing.

Motives and reasons

Caption reads: “I can’t decide whether to do the right thing for the wrong reason or the wrong thing for the right reason.”

Ever had a time when there just didn’t seem to be any easy answer? There is nothing like getting in trouble for doing the right thing! Still, it is better to do the right thing and get in trouble than do the wrong thing and feel horrible even if you stayed out of the hot water.

Finding Enemies to Love

Caption: “I learned I need to love my enemies. And lucky you, are the closest thing I have to one!”

“Enemies” is such a strong word for me. Enemies sound like someone is ready to blow me up or engage me in a sword deal on my way to work. Sure, people get on my nerves. I get on people’s nerves. Perhaps that’s the closest I come to loving an enemy. I better get started.

Pandora’s Box

“Hmmm. I wonder if I should open this?”

Sometimes there aren’t many choices are there? Sometimes, there are plenty of choices but we seem attracted to the bad ones. There’s a little Pandora in all of us, isn’t there?
