However, just as we prioritize their education and physical well-being, nurturing their faith is even more critical. So, how do we strike the perfect balance between their hectic schedules and their spiritual development? Let’s explore practical tips to fit faith into your child’s schedule.

How I envy him!

Cartoon of a dirty, smelly boy. Caption reads: "He never takes a bath, eats a candy bar for breakfast and belches the alphabet in one, giant burp. Man I wish I was like him!"

Isn’t it interesting how boys get jealous of those without manners or good personal hygiene? He’s disgusting: how I envy him!

There is such as thing as “boy funk.” Some kids, like adults, must make an extra effort at good hygiene. When I was growing up, the number one role model for kids going through this issue was Pig Pen from the Peanuts comic strip. Yes, that’s most likely where I got the inspiration to draw this cartoon.

How do You Handle Cell Phones in Church?

I remember the first time I saw someone have their mobile phone out at a church service. A teen was playing a game in the middle of the sermon. Since then, mobile phones have invaded every aspect of life. How do you handle cell phones in church?

That question inspired my cartoon for this month. This pastor has had enough of divided attention in his pews. Practically, the pastor’s idea isn’t going to work. Alas, it’s illegal to jam cell phone signals in the United States.

Cartoon of a pastor and janitor. The pastor says, "I need people really listening to the sermon. Look into jamming cell phone signals!" How do you handle cell phones in church?

Thankful Heart

Cartoon of a mom and son. The boy says, "I'll give thanks, but must I give thanks with a grateful heart?" thankful heart

It’s the day Americans choose to celebrate with turkey, canned cranberry sauce, and football. Yes! It’s the day we decide to have a thankful heart. At least, that’s the idea.

However, that can be a challenge when you have an ungrateful relative. Maybe they had a challenging year. Or perhaps that has been their demeanor since you’ve known them. Regardless, one dour soul can bring down the whole group.

Why are Church Refrigerators so Yucky?

A few months ago, my wife asked me to check for an item in the church refrigerator. It was a harrowing experience. Just why are church refrigerators so yucky, anyway?

Cartoon of a woman with a mayonnaise jar. She says, "I took an inventory. The church fridge consists of only seven jars of expired mayonnaise."

When it comes to refrigerators and churches, it can be a mixed back. Frequently, you’ll hear stories of gross church refrigerators. Let’s face it; if no one is in charge of the church kitchen, some interesting artifacts will show up. It can be scary!

But fear not! As usual, someone on the Internet has advice on how to stock a church kitchen. The bottom line is when there is a budget, and someone is in charge, it is less likely the church refrigerator won’t be filled with only expired condiments.

I drew this cartoon for the November 2022 CHOGNews.
