Snowmen and Eternal Life

I thought of this idea when I watched Frosty the Snowman during Christmas and thought of our desire to live beyond our normal lifespan. Morbid? I don’t think so. As it says in Psalm 90:12, “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

We may disagree on faith and theology, but most likely, we can agree there is a part of us that wants to live beyond our physical bodies. There is something in us that wants to live eternally. Our physical bodies are as fragile as a snowman. But our soul longs for Something much more.

I drew this for the January 2016 CHOGNews Newsletter: CHOGNews

Charitable Pleasing

Is it possible to be charitably pleasing? Yes, I’d say so. Charitable giving has been down lately. During these trying times, it’s good to remember your manners. I’ve found I don’t listen to charities as much as they send a bouncer over to convince me to empty my pockets.

As this article states, how you ask is as important as asking.

On what day did God create the Internet?

I read an article from Ministry Tech Magazine. It was talking about cloud computing and how it’s coming faster than anyone would have anticipated. No, it didn’t answer on what day God created the Internet!

The author talked about how netbooks and iPhones are totally changing the way we use computers. it reminded me of a problem we had at my church the other week. I normally use the Internet for portions of my lesson and accessing files from my MobileMe account. IT changed the setup so there was no longer a password needed to get onto the wireless.

The only problem was, I couldn’t get on at all. It seemed all the smartphones were hogging the connection. Whether people were using the wi-fi or not, the phones aggressively accessed the wi-fi nonetheless.

It amazes me how pervasive technology has become in our church in such a small amount of time. How has technology affected how your church works?

Prayer Life

“The hospital called. Your prayer life has been rushed into intensive care!”
Yes, there have been those times where my face gets flushed because I realize I haven’t prayed most of the day. Come on, Kevin! You can’t run on batteries all day!

What is a good prayer life anyway? This post by the Desiring God site offers some tips. The bottom line is it is a personal choice that centers around just taking time to do it. I like to get up early in the morning and journal my prayers. I either write by hand or type them in my electronic journal. No matter how you do it, I encourage you to find some time and take your prayer life off of life support.
