Illustration Friday: Parade

Illustration Friday: Parade, originally uploaded by speartoons.

This is my entry for Illustration Friday. This week’s word is “parade.”

The word reminds me of my high school marching band days. We would march in unbearably, hot uniforms in the July 4th, Independence Day parade.

It would have been nice to have someone waving at us. Most times, it seems the band would be stuck behind horses. That made for some fancy footwork.

I drew the finished file in Adobe Photoshop.

A few weeks ago, I drew this set of kids and moms at church.
I liked the expressions of the kids. It’s as if they were nervous because two parents were communicating. Kids get nervous whenever adults band together in the same way parents fear organized kiddie coups.

Illustration Friday: Hierarchy

Spear_1992, originally uploaded by speartoons.

Illustration of a man cowering behind a desk. I originally had this for cartoon 1992. When I heard Illustration Friday’s theme was “hierarchy,” I thought this fit the bill.

It made me think about all the business troubles going on in the banks and Wall Street. It takes a lot of courage to make it in this business climate. But be strong and courageous! We’ll get through it!

I drew this in Adobe Illustrator CS2.

Cartoon of man to woman, “I always thought falling head over heels in love was an impossibility.”

“Head over heels” has always sounded like an impossible cliche to me. Then again, I guess our heads are always over our heels, right? That must mean everyone has a chance to fall in love.

I originally drew this cartoon several years ago. When Illustration Friday announced this week’s word was “impossibility,” I went searching through the archives and came up with this one.

Illustration Friday: Fleeting/Spear_2136

Cartoon: Boy says to Dad, “I won’t talk about my day if you won’t talk about yours.”

One good thing about bad days is that they are fleeting. That works with Illustration Friday’s theme for this week!

It was a shock to me when I first discovered my kids could have bad days too. Thank heavens for family. Work can be tough, but if we just remember to build each other up at home it can be a refuge. I better get to working on that. You never know when the kids have had a bad day.

I drew this in Adobe Illustrator CS3.
