His Thoughts Are Not Our Thoughts

One of the factors I love about creativity is how it brings out the many unique perspectives in the world. I thought about that and Isaiah 55:8-9 when I drew this His thoughts are not our thoughts cartoon.

His thoughts are not our thoughts cartoon. Man says, "His thoughts are not our thoughts. Then again, your ideas are pretty unique too."

I like eccentric, non-conforming characters. When I was in art school, I admired those students with the courage to be unique. At least I thought they were unique. It turns out they got their cues from others too. It just wasn’t the characters or culture I was used to in the Midwest.

Eccentric People

Even the unique guy in my cartoon had to get his cues from somewhere. He took his cues from eighties fashion. I imagined what it would look like for a guy to dress like he did when he was into New Wave fashion. I would probably have that green and purple shirt somewhere if it wasn’t for the wisdom of my wife.

In addition, I wonder how eccentric I would be today if it wasn’t for the fortunate intervention of my wife. She came at the right time in my life to help me get acclimated to the business world. I was a goofy kid with an attraction to the unique and whatever was on sale at a thrift store. Thanks to her, I have been able to work within the confines of the business world.

His Thoughts Are Not Our Thoughts

On the other hand, I am thankful that God’s thoughts are not our thoughts. He is not concerned with what others think. Nor is he caught up in the latest concerns or cares that dominate our thinking. And I am very thankful He doesn’t take his fashion cues from the latest crave. Then again, I haven’t seen what he’s been wearing lately.

However, whatever He is wearing, doing, or thinking, I am glad He sees the entire big picture, is in control, and I can leave my cares and concerns with Him.

I drew this cartoon for the November 2022 CHOGNews.
