Whether the day is sunny, stormy, or just overcast, this day — and every day — is a good time to get out of your comfort zone.
I’ve thought a lot about comfort zones when I left everything I knew in Indiana and moved across the country to Arizona. The Spear family had many opportunities in 2015 to get out of their comfort zones.
And that’s a good thing. Like this Lifehacker post about the science of breaking out of your comfort zone shows, amazing results happen when you disrupt your routine and break out of your comfort zone.
If we are to make any real progress in life, we need to embrace change. A 1908 study by psychologists Robert M. Yerkes and John D. Dodson stated in order to increase performance, we need a state called optimal anxiety. If we get too much out of our comfort zones, we break. But if we challenge ourselves enough to get to the next level, we can accomplish more than we thought possible.
So if you feel too comfortable today, perhaps it’s time to shake things up a little. The sun is shining, the high-pressure system is right overhead. Make it a great day to get out of your comfort zone.
