Fitting Faith into Your Child’s Schedule

Cartoon of a boy talking to a Sunday school teacher. He says, "Today's class was great. I'm glad I could fit this into my schedule."

Another Spiritual Truth Cartoon

Christian parents can feel a lot of pressure to pass their faith on to their kids. That inspired me to draw this “another spiritual truth” cartoon.

Another spiritual truth cartoon. A boy says, "You're missing another opportunity to convey a spiritual truth to me."

It’s a challenge to pass our faith to our kids when there are so many voices screaming for our attention. Electronic messages prompt us to check our phones. Algorithms sort out the most outrageous messages so we can make a tempest from a teapot. Yes, it’s challenging to sort out what is really important!

The Dark Side of Playground Slides

Playground equipment is a joy for every child, aren’t they? For parents and teachers, they give an opportunity for kids to use up their energy and make full use of their imagination. Then for adults, there is the dark side of playground slides!

The hardest thing about being a substitute teacher is playground duty. It’s not because the kids are that bad, not that the weather is so horrible. It’s because as a teacher, you’re supposed to be watching the kids, not playing on the equipment.

VBS Hazard Pay

Much to the chagrin of janitors, vacation Bible school is in full swing. They will have red punch spills and out-of-control craft projects to clean up. With that in mind, I wrote and drew this VBS hazard pay cartoon.

Vacation Bible School Hazard Pay cartoon: A woman says, "I realize VBS can be rough. But we can't afford hazard pay."

Janitors are the unsung heroes of vacation Bible school. Instead of the normal maintenance and cleanups, they are used to, they experience a full week of challenges.

  • Crafts require full use of glue and glitter
  • Snacks will have the messiest ingredients known to the world
  • One kid will inevitably get sick from all the excitement
  • And then there is the VBS theme that involves incontinent animals

Stealthy Vacation Bible School

It comes out of nowhere. Most children’s directors and pastors get just a moment to rest before it hits like a lightning bolt. Yes, I’m talking about the shock of a stealthy vacation Bible school!

Stealthy Vacation Bible School Cartoon. A boy says, "Hey Mrs. Petersen! VBS is almost here!"

The plight of children’s pastors everywhere is when to begin planning for Vacation Bible school. Christmas takes precedence in December. Easter dominates late winter. Then before you know it, summer is here and there aren’t enough popsicle sticks empty toilet paper rolls, or school glue to satisfy all the VBS planning needs!
