Homeschool Expulsion

How does it feel to be expelled from home school?I admire parents who home school their kids. If my parents did it, I would not have been a model student. I am pretty sure I would have been an even worse homeschooling parent. I tip my hat off to friends and family that have had great success at homeschooling.

I have done some illustrations for Apologia Educational Ministries. I have been impressed with the depth and complexity of their text books. There are so many great resources out there today.

Background Checks and Halos

Cartoon of a woman talking to a man with a halo. She says, "It's very nice. I still have to run all volunteers through background checks."
Copyright ©2015 Kevin H. Spear

If you are running any nonprofit or children’s program, it is imperative you run background checks on everyone.

I have heard too many stories where children were abused because everyone assumed a volunteer was trustworthy. When it comes to a child’s safety, never assume!

If you create anything, you will have critics

Cartoon of a joyful guy with a bust of a stern looking man. The caption says, "Though Jack excelled at gelatin sculpting, he had his critics."

This cartoon is a nod to “Throwback Thursdays.” I drew it many years ago. It reminds me of when I drew a portrait of my grandmother. She was a sweet soul that worked hard her entire life. She had many wrinkles from working in the sun. I thought they were beautiful and interesting.

Is Twitter the ultimate evangelism tool?

Cartoon of a church teacher and two girls. One girl says, "You mean we're supposed to go into all the world? We better start tweeting about it!"

It’s no wonder traditional media is struggling. When you compare how difficult it was to get a message out just thirty years ago compared to today, well no wonder publishers are scratching their heads!

Real or Social Media Friends?

Cartoon of two women. One says, "Level with me, Doris. Are you my real or social media friend?
©2015 Kevin Spear-Cartoon 4029

We live in a world where we have social media friends, the we have close friends. Social media has allowed me to get in touch with people I may never meet face-to-face. My life is richer for those friendships. Yet, they cannot take the place of friendships within a community.
