Driving and Prayer

My wife and I have just finished a drive across the country. We saw plenty of speeders and aggressive drivers. It was enough to make you utter a prayer of thanks when we arrived in our driveway.

We take a lot of factors for granted when we hit the highway.

  • We depend on the vehicle we are driving
  • We rely on a highway in good repair
  • We hope and pray the other drivers are competent and able to safely operate their vehicles (despite evidence to the contrary)

We are less in control than we would like to admit. I am thankful we made it back and that our prayers were answered. I am also thankful there is another day to practice some safe, assertive driving.

As we venture out, let’s try to be the answer to someone’s prayer, instead of the reason someone has, out of fear, urgently stepped up their prayer life!

Appropriate Modes of Transportation

Commuting sure looks different this year as opposed to last year. Who would have thought a bus stop would be considered a risky endeavor before COVID-19?

Angelic transportation may be the way to go. We may feel safer at a bus stop if we knew a guardian angel was at our side. But would the angel be wearing a mask? Would he be giving you one?

Many people are considering what it will look like when they begin commuting to work once again. This article from Healthline.com says the CDC’s guidelines suggest solo commuting is the safest option. That’s what I’ve had to do most of my professional life, out of necessity. But what if that isn’t an option for you? What if you work in a city where public transportation is the only viable option?

In that case, the usual recommendations of wearing a mask, practice social distancing, and washing your hands frequently become that much more important. The article also says not to touch anything on your commute. Easier said than done, I know. Then again the trains and buses I have been on had quite a layer of gunk on surfaces. Maybe that layer would be great motivation to refrain from touching, or breathing anything while on that bus!

How to start your commute off wrong

Sketch of a woman threatening to sue all the commuter traffic

Sketch of a driving woman. The caption says, “I’d like to sue the entire city for reckless driving!”

I just have time for a quick sketch today. You know, there’s that commute I need to barge into the middle of!

I was thinking about two of my coworkers who are now telecommuting instead of facing the drive to and from work each day. That lucky guy and gal get to stay in their homes while the rest of us find out how bad the rest of the county drives. I just hope the woman in the sketch isn’t talking about me as well!
