I’m a fan of Christmas music. But I’m not a particular fan of Christmas mall music. What’s the difference? First, it doesn’t help much the malls are letting Christmas music creep in earlier each year. They’re playing the same Christmas songs in October now.
Second, In an effort to sanitize the music so that it doesn’t offend anyone, they play the same songs that only talk of decked halls, Santa’s baby and twelve days of strange gift-giving. There are no Christmas carols. It’s just the fun, innocuous Christmas music that celebrates gift-giving, Santa, and snow. It’s all Santa’s milk and cookies and no meat.
Perhaps the Ghost of Christmas Mall Music would have spooked Ebenezar Scrooge the most!
