Sermon notes based on Proverbs 6:4-11, page 1


These notes are based on Proverbs 6:4-11. Don’t put off for tomorrow what you can do today. It’s so easy to talk about, and so hard to do, isn’t it? The pastor really hit me with the remark, “Inspiration doesn’t change your life if you do nothing with it.” We must be intentional with our time. I have learned this as I have managed my time over the last year. When you are working for yourself, being a self-starter is critical!

How to Keep Your Cat Out of the Christmas Tree

One Christmas, we had a tree disaster. Thanks to a new kitten, our tree made Charlie Brown‘s puny specimen look like the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center.

What is Love, Anyway?

Sketch note based on 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 | What is Love?

When it comes to love, 1 Corinthians 13 paints a much more complex picture than the love our society likes to talk about. What do you mean love is patient and kind? You mean envy boasting and pride has nothing to do with love? What about all the duels and fights history has recorded?

The love our culture pursues is so selfish and fleeting. The kind of love the Apostle Paul talks about is so much more effective and world-changing than the romantic love of trashy novels and Hollywood. 

It’s the kind of love that heals the world. May we all receive this kind of love as well as give it today.

Glad Tidings of Great Joy | Luke 2:10

Sketch note based on Luke 2:10 and the concept of joyIn Luke 2:10, the angel tells the shepherds he has good news that will bring joy. Joy is a concept we confuse with happiness. We can have joy even when we are not happy. Joy is connected with hope. We can be joyful in dire circumstances but have joy because we know this is not the end. Joy is anticipation that there is a good ending and the source is very good.

Sermon notes | Road Trip: Acts 15:1-21

Today’s road trip took is through Acts 15. Too often, we make new people conform to our standards when we didn’t begin at the same advance stage.

This made me think of how hard it is for a highly talented, successful athlete to become a coach. When you have performed at such a high level, it is difficult to relate to athletes that haven’t been there yet. 

Paul was a great teacher. He helped others get to a higher level, but didn’t make them start there. A good teacher and coach knows where his students are, adjusts to that level, then patiently takes them to a higher level of performance.
