That’s right! There’s no cartoon today. I saw this scene and thought it would be perfect for this day. Here are some observations and lessons from a Good Friday.
The joy of Easter wouldn’t mean much without the suffering and sacrifice of Good Friday. There would be no resurrection without death. One needs the other.
On this Good Friday, I think about the many struggles and troubles we all go through. They can be tough and feel hopeless. However, a quote from Jay Block put it in perspective for me.
“The human experience requires that you struggle for anything meaningful because that is the only way you appreciate anything.”
Jay A Block
None of us want to hear that, especially when we are in the middle of a struggle. But we know it is necessary. We have no way of appreciating the good things without the struggle.
From 2017 to 2022
When I first wrote this, I was struggling in my business and searching for work. It was a brutal time for my ego and for our finances. The US economy was roaring but my personal economy was suffering. That Good Friday in 2017 gave me hope when I needed it so terribly.
Fast-forwarding to today, we have all gone through COVID-19 struggles. The previous two Good Fridays and Easters were anything but normal. My prayer is that through the struggles, we learned to appreciate today. And through the helplessness we all experience, may we see embrace the kindness of a savior who paid the ultimate price for you and me.
I don’t know what you are going through. But rest assured I have my own struggles and obstacles. I choose to look up where my help comes from and to know when I am on the other side, I will appreciate the good because I endured the struggle. Those are some of my lessons from a Good Friday.
