This morning at church, we will celebrate Mother’s Day. It’s the third highest attended Sunday in the year with Easter and Christmas in the top two positions. This Sunday, I will be helping kids get from their classes to big church so they can sing and warm their mother’s hearts. It should make for some moist eyes and wonderful photo opportunities.
Meanwhile, I will be teaching the elementary kids about determination. I like that because it reminds me of my mother. She has taught me determination and to keep going when things get hard. She was there for me when I made mistakes and cried over them. She has been there for me when I have experienced hard times. All the while, she has been a shining example of faith and determination to do the right thing no matter the cost. Happy Mother’s day to Juanita Darlene Spear!
Because of her faith and determination, I am in children’s ministry today. She was my Sunday school teacher when other volunteers were as rare as Indiana snow in May. She also encouraged me to volunteer for Vacation Bible school when I was a teen. Little did she know that sparked an interest in working with children.
She also encouraged me to pursue my art and express myself creatively. She instilled determination within me to keep pursuing your passions whether or not you get the accolades and recognition.
Happy Mother’s Day to my one and only Juanita Darlene Spear!
