In today’s quote, Henry Miller claims everyone has a destiny. If it is true, that can be a scary proposition. If life isn’t going the way we hoped, if we are going through a tough time right now, we tend to believe that is our lot in life and to just accept it.
But should we? If our vision and values are misaligned with our current situation, should we just accept that’s the way things are?
Destiny and Expectations
We all have expectations of how things would turn out. Too many times, we expect smooth sailing. When things get stormy, we tend to think that’s the way things are. But what if the fulfillment of our future involves many storms and obstacles? What if our goals are good, but our plans need adjusting?
The destination we are striving for may involve some creativity along with tenacity. Our overall strategy may be good, but we may have to adjust our tactics. Don’t let go of a dream just because it is hard! When our expectations involve an easy road, we may need to adjust them!
When we travel, a vehicle breakdown can frustrate us. That obstacle doesn’t mean the trip wasn’t meant to be. Instead, obstacles and detours will allow us to appreciate the destination, even more, when we arrive.
I tend to agree everyone has a destiny, but that it isn’t a bad thing. Just because a person may have had a challenging past, doesn’t mean they are doomed to stay there. Just because someone has felt limited over the years doesn’t mean they have to remain restricted from their goals.
Yes, everyone has a future. We all have a destination we are working towards. And no matter what you have endured in the past, it can be very bright from this point on. Keep striving, keep believing and keep working towards the vision you have before you.
