When is contagious a good thing?

Not long ago, social media influencers were looking for their next big viral video. It will be interesting to see if we will continue to use this term since we are all conscious of what a contagious virus can do.

None of us want to be infected by a contagion that can harm ourselves and our loved ones. Yet, when a parent or medical professional sees a sick child like in my former post, they are ready to spring into action and risk getting the infection as well. That selflessness and desire to help others heal is worthy of being contagious.

We have witnessed many selfless acts during the past couple of months. We have witnessed generosity, caring, and a willingness to stay in place while this virus took its course. Those are qualities that are worthy of being contagious.

We have witnessed selfish behavior through this pandemic too. We have seen hoarding and other unfortunate behaviors. Those are unfortunate side effects of the pandemic.

As we begin to venture out and rebuild our economies and lives, consider what behaviors you want to be contagious. Let’s spread something that we all want to be contagious.

Insurance and Assurances

It’s been a difficult week for the United States and the world. Some have insurance. Few have assurances when people will get to go out again and mingle. It is a tough time for parents who have to juggle the normal challenges of raising a family with a pandemic and a little cabin fever thrown in for good measure.

This morning, I hear birds singing outside my window. They don’t have a clue all the stress humans are experiencing right now. They are carrying on with their spring rituals. They are finding food and building nests in anticipation of the little ones.

There have never been full assurances that life would be the same as it ever was. Things have changed this year, and there will be more changes. But life will go on. There will still be joyous times even in the midst of the challenges. There will be choirs singing, kids playing sports and joyful reunions someday soon. Just hang on today while we negotiate social distancing and how our health insurance plans actually work. We can do this together!

Some Calm During This Crazy Coronavirus Time

As I write this, The world is coming to grips with the COVID-19 virus. In the United States, professional sports organizations, schools, and businesses are closing until we can get a better handle on the extent and severity of the outbreak. It’s been a crazy week no matter how you look at it. By the way, happy Friday the Thirteenth!

When facing an unknown such as a contagious virus, it can be easy to overreact like the girl in today’s cartoon. How can you not when everyday life is being affected even if you don’t get the virus? Yet, we will get through this. We have endured outbreaks through millennia and we will get through this one as well.

As we go through this pandemic, remember to take precautions, but do so with calm. Panic causes people to do some crazy things like put a daycare on lockdown when a baby has a runny nose. It can make someone buy six months’ worth of bathroom tissue. It can make you want to disinfect your cat. Keep calm and we will get through this!

How to give your wife a happy birthday

Cartoon of a sick woman asking a man to sign a contract

Cartoon of an ill woman with a contract. She says to a man, “Please sign this agreement that you will never again bake me a birthday cake.”

Maybe it’s the thought that counts, but if you know you’re a lousy baker, let the professionals do the work. After all, you will need to eat the cake too!

Horse Sense

Cartoon of two cowboys. One has a bicycle. He says, “I sure hope my horse get better soon!”

There’s nothing more sad than sick transportation. However, a horse doesn’t sound like a bad way to go. I wonder how much a bag of oats cost as opposed to gasoline?

I drew this for Illustration Friday. This week’s word is “bicycle.”
