Feeding on Trash

We hear all the time about physical nutrition. We are told to avoid junk food if we want our bodies to be strong and to fight off disease. But we don’t hear near enough about mental nutrition

A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash.

Proverbs 15:14

What we put into our minds is every bit as important as what we feed our bodies. In fact, our mental well-being can also affect our physical health.

Let’s be sure we are feeding ourselves good knowledge and encouraging information. Beware of mental junk food!

Better than Google

Cartoon of a man at an information boothCartoon of a man at a church information booth who says, “You’ve been very helpful… even better than Google!

I feel sorry for reference librarians and the people that mind information booths. There was once a time when those skills depended solely on your knowledge compared to other people. Now they have to compete with search engines. At least the human touch can be much more friendly than the Googled version.

I drew this for the May 2017 Church of God CHOGNews.

Churches, Agriculture and Social Media

Since I’ve moved back to the Midwest, I’ve noticed some common themes. When I’ve talked to pastors and church members, they see a need to effectively use social media. True, print is still the dominant theme. Yet, the also see more and more people consuming social media. They see the Millennials almost exclusively on their phone and not bothering to pick up a church bulletin.
