Breakfast Cereal and Adventure

I heard a few months ago that Millenials aren’t eating as much breakfast cereal as previous generations because it takes too much time to prepare.

Judging by cereal commercials, I think it is because cereal causes too much adventure. It gives us too much get-up-and-go. It makes us do crazy things like skateboard, try out for the dodgeball team or hike Pikes Peak with nothing more than milk and cereal for provisions.

Daredevils and Backsliders on the Playground

Teacher to student: "Curtis! What are you doing backsliding like that?"

No matter where you are, there is always a kid on the playground that will test the boundaries of the rules. Some will be blatant about it. Some will subtly test the boundaries until someone notices.

The same kids grow up to test boundaries. You see every day on the highways. Speed limits are conquered, red lights are beaten and accidents happen.

Resolutions and Risks

Cartoon of a lamb and wolf. The sheep says, “€œThis year, I resolve to stay away from unnecessary risks.”

When I heard Illustration Friday’s word was “resolutions” this week, I thought of this cartoon I did in 2002. It’s funny for me because I had been laid off at the time, I had just gotten a new job, and everything seemed like a risk. I’m glad I can look back on things and see how there was a plan and everything worked out!
