Angry Birds Sermon

The Angry Birds phenomenon had been around long enough in 2011 to come up with a cartoon about an angry bird sermon. People love to give pastors ideas for sermons much like they love to give ideas to cartoonists!

Angry Birds sermon cartoon. A pastor says, "So you think I should base an entire sermon series on 'Any Birds?'"

Sermon Series and Pop Culture

So when I thought of this idea, I considered how technology has changed the church. If you walk into most churches today, you’ll at least see a projector on the wall. They have replaced hymn books with Powerpoint and lyrics projected on a wall. I see it as a good thing.

Mother’s Day Breakfast in Bed Alternative

I don’t consider myself a good cook. Like Charlie Brown, I can basically make popcorn and toast. So I was always searching for a Mother’s Day breakfast in bed alternative.

I think the two boys in this cartoon have a good idea!

Mother's Day Breakfast in bed alternative. A boy is on a phone and says, "Hello, Pizza Palace? For Mother's Day, would you deliver breakfast in bed?"

On the other hand, my son is an outstanding cook. He knows how to prepare a fantastic breakfast. I remember one Mother’s Day when he triumphantly prepared a breakfast fit for a queen. The only problem was that it was also fit for a king and several of their attendants. That was a BIG breakfast!

Let Your Attitude Shine

Our demeanor can make or break us. It can affect our day goes as well as the people around us. Isn’t it any wonder we equate light with someone who is peaceful or happy? So let your attitude shine!

Let your attitude shine cartoon. A boy says to a girl, "How can I keep my bad attitude with you glowing like that?"

When someone is grumpy or sad, we say they are in a dark mood. But when we are in a good mood, others may say we are bright, or that we lighten up a room. Considering this, who wants to bring darkness and gloom wherever they go?

What a Vehicle Breakdown Taught Me About Creativity

I didn’t want the experience. Nobody looks forward to problems. But learning from them is so valuable. Among other things, that is what a vehicle breakdown taught me about creativity.

My family moved from Indiana to Arizona. For the first half of the trip, everything seemed to go according to plan. But as we were about to enter the Texas Panhandle, one of our two vans just lost it. Of all things, the power steering pulley broke.

We stayed two days in Shamrock, Texas while we waited for repairs. and we thought everything was fine. Then the same van overheated from Amarillo to Tucumcari, New Mexico. Once again, we found a garage to repair the ailing van. Alas, we limped through Albuquerque until the van gave up the ghost in Grants, New Mexico. It all sounds so simple now. But it was quite an ordeal. And guess what? I know next to nothing about cars!

Besides a great story for Spear family lore, this episode taught me a few things about creativity.

Spooky Customer Service

If there is one thing the Casper, the Friendly Ghost cartoons taught me is that ghosts can have spooky customer service.

Spooky customer service cartoon. A girl says to a ghost, "This is really a bad time for a scare. Can you come back later?"

Judging by the expression of this spirit, I’m guessing he will honor the girl’s wishes. What a nice ghost! I’m sure he will come back later when it’s more convenient.
