How to Increase Your Prayer Life

Summer is coming and kids will soon be out of school for the summer. I remember the times when parents and kids had to adjust to the new normal. That inspired this How to Increase Your Prayer Life cartoon.

How to increase your prayer life Cartoon: A mom says, "My prayer life is so much stronger since the kids got out of school!"

There is nothing like a crisis to increase our prayer lives. It can be a minor, annoying crisis like boisterous kids that are trying to entertain themselves. Or we can experience major crises that bring us to our knees. Both types of situations make us reconsider increasing our quiet time.

This morning, my devotional begins exploring the Book of Job. It is a heavy book, filled with tragedy and deep questions. It’s not the kind of pick-me-up reading you want to take to the beach for the summer.

Prayer and the Good Life

The problem with my prayer life is I tend to forget to pray when things are going well. I’d like to think I am consistent with my quiet time. But if I’m being honest, when things are good, I start slacking off.

It’s ironic, isn’t it? I should be giving my gratitude to God when I have so much to be thankful for. But in reality, until a crisis comes, I go on autopilot. I take for granted all the good things in my life.

That’s why we can be thankful for the little annoyances in life. It can remind us how little we are in control and that it’s good to get in touch with the one who is in control.

May any of your crises be minor as the one in this cartoon. And may you get a little giggle out of this How to Increase Your Prayer Life cartoon.

I drew this cartoon for the November 2022 CHOGNews.

Editor’s Note: I originally published this blog on October 6, 2015. I revamped and updated it for timeliness and comprehensiveness.
