Reality Goes North

Cartoon of an elf and Santa Claus. The elf says, “It’s another cable TV producer asking if we’d like to be in a reality show.”

I’m not sure I’d want to see elves going at each other because of deplorable working conditions, but it would make interesting TV nonetheless. It could be called “Santa’s Sweatshop” or “North Pole Goes South.” Oh the sordid details that would emerge!

Ho Ho the Mistletoe

Cartoon of a boy and girl under mistletoe. The boy says, “Eew! Get away from me! There is no way I’m getting mistletoed!”

This is a cartoon I did twelve years ago. At the time, my son was six years-old. The thought of mistletoe made his skin crawl. He would have nothing to do with it. Now that he’s eighteen, I need to ask him if his opinion has changed.

Stalker Claus

Cartoon of a girl and someone with a bag over their head. The girl says, “I know what you mean. ‘Santa Claus is Coming to Town’ gives me the creeps too.”

Santa seems to be a bit of a stalker.

He sees you when you’re sleeping. He knows when you’re awake. He knows when you’ve been good or bad. Get a restraining order, for goodness sakes!”

Vexed Christmas Spirit

Cartoon of Scrooge and the ghost of Jacob Marley. Marley says, “You will be visited by three spirits: The Ghost of Christmas Past, Ghost of Christmas present, and Ghost of Christmas Mall Music.”

Christmas mall music has been vexing me lately. It’s a lot of cheer without the babe in the manger. Christmas music without Christ is vain, fluffy and nonsensical… much like the rest of the mall.
