Achievable Goals

Cartoon of boy holding a frisbee

Cartoon of a boy holding a frisbee. The boy says, “They say start with achievable goals. Today, my goal is to catch this Frisbee®.”

The funny thing about goals is they can motivate you to get moving. But if you aren’t motivated, it’s hard to set goals. If you are down in the dumps, it can be easy to moan, “What’s the point?”

If you find yourself in this predicament, I’ve found that setting small goals can help get the momentum back in your favor. And yes, they can be a silly as catching a Frisbee® if that is important to you (and I find that to be an especially good goal if you can catch it behind your back or between your legs).

Often, I can get overwhelmed if I try to reach an unreachable, lofty  goal. If you find yourself in such a situation, break that big goal into little, reachable goals. Each positive step you take can get you moving in the right direction.

Cartoon: Hypnotizing Easter

Cartoon of a guy staring at a huge Easter hat.

Cartoon of a guy staring at a huge Easter hat. The caption says, “Mike found Mrs. Healey’s Easter had hypnotizing.”

I like it when churches still celebrate Easter and spring with fashions. There’s nothing like a big, Easter hat to keep an individual entertained for hours. With the right hat, a youngster can imagine he is hacking his way through the Amazon.

A hat with the right bouquet can make you swear you see Peter Cottontail ready to hop right out of that arrangement!

Postponed for Lack of Interest?

Boy asking why can't school be postponed?
Cartoon of a boy asking, “Why don’t they ever call off school for lack of interest?”

I’ve been there, haven’t you? You may even like work or school, but sometimes, mornings sap the motivation right out of you! How dow you get motivated when everything within you says, “Can’t we just call it a day?”

Cartoon: Hacking Pet

Cartoon of a boy scolding a dog on a computer

Cartoon of a boy scolding his talented dog. The caption reads, “Skippy! Bad dog! There is no hacking in this house!”

I’ve come to the conclusion a dog’s main talent is hacking. My dog is a good hacker. She isn’t a computer hacker, but she is a very vocal hacker nonetheless.

When I heard Illustration Friday’s word was “talent, I thought of my talented dog.

Cartoon: Stuck-up Snowman

Cartoon of two girls and a snowman

Cartoon of two girls walking away from a snowman. One says, “I can’t believe he’s giving me the cold shoulder!”

Those snowmen can be stuck-up, or can they? Maybe they’re a little introverted. Come on, girls! Give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he’s imagining a day on the beach, or perhaps he’s trying to figure out how to survive spring. At any rate, you won’t realize how much you miss him until he’s gone in March.
