When is it time to quit?

Is it time to quit when things just seem too hard? Is it time to quit when everyone around us has given up? What about when all the reports and social media say it’s time to quit?

  • We love a good story where the hero doesn’t give up even when all seems lost.
  • We revel in the feel-good tale of a pet that is found when most thought the critter was no more.
  • Who doesn’t like to see someone who has overcome the odds?

There is always a chance that an effort is futile. We may not always get what we want. But those who refuse to quit will reap rewards even if the odds are against them and the battle is a foregone conclusion.

We can find a good cause and change the world for the better when we refuse to quit. But when we do it…

Resolve only reaps rewards when we treat others the way we want to be treated. That includes any perceived enemies.

"Effort only fully releases its reward after a person refuses to give up. "Napoleon Hill

The power of purpose

If the last few months have taught us anything, it is that life is precious and fragile. We are fragile! Someone can look healthy one day, and two weeks later, they could be gone due to a tiny virus. This life is temporary.

Purpose prods us on to excellence. If all we have to work for is temporary gain, it won’t motivate us very far. Belonging to a higher purpose will keep us going when we face difficulty.

We are more than the economy. We are more than short-term gains. I encourage you to find your purpose. Strive to belong to something that is greater and more permanent that will outlast all of us. Be a person of faith and watch what is left of your life become excellent.

Learning Leads to Change

I get it. Some people don’t like change… most people don’t like change! It’s uncomfortable. We’ve worked hard to get where we are and we want to keep it. We love our kids and we don’t want them to ever move away, or grow into adults, for that matter. Change can be tough.

But if we resist change, does that mean we resist learning? Does it mean our growth is stunted? If we’re the same people we were twenty years ago, is that healthy? Is it really possible to remain in the twentieth century?

Change is the result of all true learning

Leo Buscaglia

Yesterday is gone. It’s a memory tainted with today’s biases. What worked then may not work now. At the very least, it may need to be modified. We will either learn and embrace change, or we will resist change and fade away. Let’s learn today and make the changes that keep us relevant.
