No-Shave November for Youth Pastors

Cartoon of a woman telling a bearded man, "The church bylaws ban youth pastors from participating in No Shave November."

Sometimes, a little facial hair can raise the ire of the local church lady. It’s not that it is spiritually offensive. I propose it is because the scruffy look reminds Eunice of her younger years when she dated her dear Grover.

Happy No-Shave November!

I drew this cartoon for the November, 2015 Church of God Newsletter.

Homeschool Expulsion

How does it feel to be expelled from home school?I admire parents who home school their kids. If my parents did it, I would not have been a model student. I am pretty sure I would have been an even worse homeschooling parent. I tip my hat off to friends and family that have had great success at homeschooling.

I have done some illustrations for Apologia Educational Ministries. I have been impressed with the depth and complexity of their text books. There are so many great resources out there today.

Weeping, Wailing and Gnashing of Teething Rings

A nursery teacher says to a parent, "This morning's nursery saw lots of weeping, wailing and gnashing of teething rings."

There are some things you just can’t prepare for. One baby begins to wail. the next thing you know, you have a choir of weeping and wailing.

Yes, you can see leadership principles in a group of babies. If you have one charismatic cryer, the whole group will join in within a few moments.

28 Graphic Design Terms Every Marketer Should Know [Infographic]

I saw this article a LinkedIn associate shared. It is a Hubspot Infographic on design terms for marketers.

If you are in marketing and don’t come from a design background, this article is a must! Graphic design is the mode of visual communication. Now that technology has transformed both marketing and design, we need to be sure we understand each other so we can produce the best message.

Pay particular attention to the letters section. Typography has a much richer history and contains terms that made sense in the age of molten lead, Linotype machines. Enjoy!

Never feel lost during a conversation with a designer again. Check out this list of graphic design terms every marketer should know.

Why no one likes standardized tests

But Misses Kriegel! Why can't we have more standardized tests?

Teachers hate giving them. Students hate taking them. Parents hate seeing their kids endure them. Who likes standardized tests besides politicians and the makers of these tests?

You finally see some politicians take up the cause of less testing. But some fear the pressure has already done too much damage to students, parents and schools.

Whether standardized tests are good or not, there was never any good campaign to promote standardized tests with the public. The marketing was poor or nonexistent. It was merely seen as a measuring stick by which all schools should be measured. The problem is, if all a school has time to do is measure whether the kids are learning, there is never any time for teaching… or at least the kind of teaching that makes kids fall in love with lifetime learning.
