Beneath the Tree Cartoon

It’s the age-old story of the epic battle between cats and dogs! I’ve seen it in my own house many times. One such battle inspired this “Beneath the tree cartoon.”

Beneath the tree cartoon. A dog says to a cat, "Come down! All I want to do is talk about taking a bite out of crime."

Why do cats and dogs have such an adversarial relationship? One blog post suggests it’s less about the two species always being at war with the other and more to do with getting used to each other.

Stealthy Vacation Bible School

It comes out of nowhere. Most children’s directors and pastors get just a moment to rest before it hits like a lightning bolt. Yes, I’m talking about the shock of a stealthy vacation Bible school!

Stealthy Vacation Bible School Cartoon. A boy says, "Hey Mrs. Petersen! VBS is almost here!"

The plight of children’s pastors everywhere is when to begin planning for Vacation Bible school. Christmas takes precedence in December. Easter dominates late winter. Then before you know it, summer is here and there aren’t enough popsicle sticks empty toilet paper rolls, or school glue to satisfy all the VBS planning needs!

Walls and Bridges Cartoon

Relationships are so tricky! We are continually building walls or bridges between each other. One day, I thought about that and drew this wall and bridges cartoon.

Walls and bridges cartoon. A woman in a castle says, "I admit I have built walls between us, but I built a bridge too!"

Each day, we can be tempted to just burn a bridge and build a walled fortress. We think it is easier to write off someone because they may be difficult, have opinions we dislike or tend to build walls. Who needs them anyway?

Psalm 145 Sketch

Once in a while, I like to sketch out a sermon or a bible passage. I liked how this Psalm 145 sketch turned out and posted it in 2006.

Psalm 145 sketch

I like this passage because it is full of joy. After all, it is a song of praise. And it speaks about teaching good news from one generation to the next. That is a theme that has resonated with me over the years. It is why I still love to work in children’s ministry.

Pop-up Evangelism

Happy Pentecost or Whit Sunday! This cartoon seemed like just as good a one for this day as any. Besides, what better day for a little pop-up evangelism than Pentecost Sunday?

Pop-up Evangelism cartoon: a guy pops out of a tree and says, "Have you thought about where you will spend eternity?"

Pentecost Sunday in many churches commemorates the day the Holy Spirit descended on the Disciples after Jesus ascended to Heaven. You can read all about it in Acts, Chapter 2. Suddenly, this group of followers transformed from a timid group to one that was willing to do anything to share the good news or Gospel.
