This morning, I am going to be running the To Do My Best Half-Marathon in Troy, Ohio. I am looking forward to it because I haven’t run one in well over two years. I know. It’s a sickness. But I gladly embrace my malady.
I embrace it partly because it has been a challenging two years. I put off some of my goals because my wife and I were invited to help with the vision of a church across the country. When it didn’t work out, we moved back to the Midwest.
I put my goals on hold because I believed in the mission. I hoped when we got to our new location I would find my own work that would equally satisfy me. About the time I found work, we moved back across the country. I’m glad we left our pets in the Midwest. For them, it was a year-long vacation with an aunt and the grandparents.
I learned a few things in the midst of a trying two years:
- Catching someone else’s vision is fine, but don’t give up your own dreams and goals.
- Not all goals work out. It is better to plan them anyway than to never make them because you don’t know what lies ahead.
- It is worth it to keep your integrity and stay on the straight and narrow.
- Keep moving along the path. Consistent movement is better than no movement at all.
So this morning, I will run 13.1 miles (Lord willing). I will hopefully finish this goal and move on to others. Whether or not I succeed at this, it is far better to put in the effort and move!
