Cartoon: Praying Back to School

Cartoon of a mom and a boy. The boy says, "I don't get it. I prayed real hard, but I still have to go back to school?"

Cartoon of a mom and a boy. The boy says, “I don’t get it. I prayed real hard, but I still have to go back to school?”

Yes, I’m afraid so. Many kids in the USA go back to school tomorrow, if they haven’t already. Christmas break was fun, but now it’s time to hit the books and hold out until spring.

I drew this for the August, 2012, Church of God E-Newsletter.

Cartoon: Pretend I’m Zacchaeus

Cartoon of a boy and dad. The boy says, "Let's sit in the balcony so I can pretend I'm Zacchaeus."

Cartoon of a boy and dad. The boy says, “Let’s sit in the balcony so I can pretend I’m Zacchaeus.”

As a kid, I was fascinated with balconies. Maybe it was because our church didn’t have one while other, bigger churches did. Maybe it was because that was where all the rebel kids seemed to go so they could get away with mischief. Or perhaps it was because whenever I heard the story of Jesus and Zacchaeus, I imagined Zach in a balcony instead of a sycamore tree. After all, balcony and sycamore tree almost rhyme, right?

I drew this cartoon for the June, 2012, Church of God E-Newsletter.

Illustration Friday: Glow

Cartoon of a boy and a radiant girl. The boy says, "How can I keep my bad attitude with you glowing like that?"

Don’t you love it when people are in such a good mood, they glow? People that peaceful and positive attract others like a moth to a flame. Attitudes are contagious so we might as well spread a good one. That’ll come in handy as those of us in the Northern Hemisphere begin the first day of winter.

While I drew this last year, this was perfect for this week’s theme at Illustration Friday.” This week’s word is “glow.”

Cartoon: Christmas Stress

Cartoon of a boy with a wreath on his head

It’s that time of year where the stress level goes through the roof. I wonder if the mom in this cartoon placed the wreath on the boy’s head in an absent-minded frenzy or in frustration. Either way, it’s going to be extra hard for this boy to be good until Christmas!
