Gross Volunteering Cartoon

Sometimes, volunteer workers encounter disgusting situations. I thought about what that would look like if a boy volunteer was hoping for such a situation, but he had no luck. That led to this gross volunteering cartoon.

Gross volunteering cartoon: A boy says, "Our group is cleaning this park. Anything disgusting in this area?"

This cartoon reminds me of two times I volunteered and encountered something gross.

Computer Crashes and Breaks

The one nice thing about computer crashes and breaks is that they give us a chance to catch up and breathe a little.

Cartoon of a man at a desk. He says, "I found a way to take my breaks. My computer is set up to crash every two hours."

Computer crashes have been around as long as computers. We have no problem finding articles and advice on what could be wrong and how to fix it. When we have a persistent crash, it reminds us how much we depend on these machines, doesn’t it?

Administrative Professionals Day Cartoon

It’s that April holiday I don’t know what to do with. So here is my Administrative Professionals Day cartoon and a tribute to my computer.

Administrative Professionals Day Cartoon. Cartoon of a man talking to a woman about his computer. He says, “It's Administrative Professionals Day. So I got my computer some flowers."

Don’t get me wrong. Administrative professionals have very important jobs in many companies. But to me, technology has blurred who is an administrative professional and who isn’t. I tend to agree with an article at Slate saying the “holiday” is doing more harm than good. The title is quite blunt and says the holiday needs to die.

Are you an optimist or pessimist?

When it gets right down to it, which one are you? Are you an optimist or pessimist? Do you say the glass is half empty, half full, or has life dumped the contents all over you?

Are you and optimist or pessimist? Cartoon of an angry girl and a drenched boy. The boy says, “You may think the glass is half-empty, but I say it is half-full. At least it was before you dumped it on me.”

Have you ever experienced the ire of someone who just wants to stay in a bad mood? Boy, I have! I’ve tried to tell a few jokes, act silly, and even encourage them to join along. Usually, it goes horribly wrong. In fact, I’ve learned the best way to make a pessimist feel better is to allow them to get you down. They aren’t happy until they make you miserable. Misery loves company, right?

Why Inviting a Friend is so Powerful

This cartoon was for a magazine series on encouraging kids to bring their friends to church. It demonstrates why inviting a friend is so powerful.

When I first wrote this blog post, I had been going to job and career seminars in a new city. One thing I’ve heard repeatedly is that job postings on Internet sites are not nearly as effective as finding work through a friend. Since this was my first big move, I had no idea how crucial that was. It took a few months to make friends and find good work.
