Capable Dresser

It doesn’t seem that long ago when I kept track of my kids’ milestones. At the time, they seemed so important. Today, those milestones give me a bit of nostalgia. One such milestone is when each child becomes a capable dresser.

Capable dresser: illustration of a boy getting dressed

All parents wait for the day when their kids can dress themselves. They imagine what it will be like to have the freedom to have a cup of coffee while Junior gets ready for school.

A Block of Mercy Cartoon

Daily, we are tempted to react and get revenge for those that are rude, crude, and just plain mean. Like the boy in this “block of mercy” cartoon, we want to get even before we think of forgiveness.

Block of Mercy Cartoon. A boy says, "Can I sho mercy to Kenny after I knock his block off?"

Mercy can be hard, can’t it? It’s especially hard with siblings. The only time siblings feel like giving mercy is when they are the ones in need of it. Just ask my siblings. I got much more mercy than I deserve. Wait a minute… you can’t earn mercy, can you? Because if it is deserved, it isn’t mercy.

Do My Bidding Cartoon

Let’s face it. We are all selfish and would like things to go our way all the time. That’s where this “do my bidding cartoon” came from.

Do my bidding cartoon. A boy says, "I'm mad! Why can't the world to my bidding?"

Nobody like selfish people, do we? Of course, if we’re honest, we don’t like selfish people because we want to be the selfish person. All of us want to be king of the world and have everyone do their bidding.

There are seven billion potential dictators in the world, and I am just as selfish as the rest of them. There! I said it! confession is good for the soul, this morning.

Another Spiritual Truth Cartoon

Christian parents can feel a lot of pressure to pass their faith on to their kids. That inspired me to draw this “another spiritual truth” cartoon.

Another spiritual truth cartoon. A boy says, "You're missing another opportunity to convey a spiritual truth to me."

It’s a challenge to pass our faith to our kids when there are so many voices screaming for our attention. Electronic messages prompt us to check our phones. Algorithms sort out the most outrageous messages so we can make a tempest from a teapot. Yes, it’s challenging to sort out what is really important!

Camp Safety Cartoon

Welcome to Camp Watchdalake. Where it isn’t camp until somebody falls into the lake! It gives us a chance to enjoy this camp safety cartoon.

Camp safety cartoon: A boy says, "Oh well. It's not camp until somebody falls into the lake."

For children, camp may be the first time when they have the opportunity to test their independence and see what happens when they test the limits of good sense. So safety can be an issue for some kids.
